The non-profit Birth Works ®
offers national childbirth educator and doula workshops and
certification programs, and classes for expectant parents.
Birth Works ®
is described as "a process, not a method", which
recognizes that "the emotions of a birthing woman have
profound effects on the birth outcome." To that end, the
organization helps birth educators and doulas to "develop a
woman's confidence in her own ability to give birth".
The well-organized site includes a list of childbirth
classes, birth educators and doulas for each U.S. state, an
extensive databank on primal health research studies, a helpful
FAQ for expectant parents, and a shop with well-selected and
hard-to-find books, audio and video tapes, and gifts.
Michel Odent, the French obstetrician who first introduced
birthing pools and home-like birthing rooms in a state general
hospital is on the Birth Works ®
advisory board. Dr. Odent founded the Primal Health
Research Center in London, England and keeps the organization
informed of the latest birth research. Birth Works®
distributes his Primal Health newsletter in North and South
America. Newsletter subscriptions will soon be available on the
Natural Child Project site.
We would like to thank Birth Works ®
for making so much important and hard-to-find material
available on the Internet. We encourage prospective parents and
childbirth educators to visit their web site and learn more
about the excellent classes and programs they offer.
