World
Alliance for Breastfeeding Action
WABA is a global network of organizations
and individuals who believe that "breastfeeding is the
right of all children and mothers and who dedicate themselves to
protect, promote and support this right". WABA acts on the Innocenti
Declaration and works in liaison with UNICEF.
Established in 1991, WABA seeks to
re-establish and maintain a global breastfeeding culture;
eliminate obstacles to breastfeeding; promote regional and
national co-operation; and advocate for breastfeeding around the
world through information sharing and networking among many
agencies and organizations.
The site features reports on such projects
as World Breastfeeding Week, position papers, and international
campaigns. Much of the information on the site is available in
eight languages. An extensive photo gallery shows breastfeeding
around the world, and virtual greeting cards, a guestbook, and
well-selected links are included. A wonderfully unique children's
section includes a gallery of Thai children's art, two
online booklets written for children, "Breastfeeding is an
Ecological Act" and "Mammals??? What is That?!"
and information about the Mariana breastfeeding doll.
